Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) has announced that its Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa hub at Dubai World Central (DWC) has achieved the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Center of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV) Pharma certification.
The certification recognises the hub’s capabilities in handling and transporting temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical and healthcare shipments while meeting international standards for safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
Certification Covers More Than 280 Criteria
The CEIV Pharma certification was awarded following an assessment covering more than 280 criteria across operational processes, storage facilities, equipment, quality management systems and regulatory compliance.
FedEx said the certification helps safeguard the integrity of pharmaceutical products throughout the supply chain.
The DWC hub is purpose-built to support temperature-sensitive healthcare shipments. The 57,000-square-metre facility features advanced automation, high-speed security screening, dangerous goods handling and a 170-square-metre temperature-controlled storage area.
Supporting Healthcare Logistics in the UAE
The certification comes as the UAE continues to develop its healthcare and life sciences sector, increasing demand for reliable cold-chain logistics and specialised transportation solutions.
FedEx supports healthcare customers through its global network, specialised healthcare services and digital technologies designed to improve shipment visibility and handling.
Taarek Hinedi, Vice President of Operations and Planning & Engineering at FedEx Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa, said the certification reflects the company’s commitment to healthcare logistics services that meet international standards.
He added that the DWC hub serves as a key gateway connecting businesses across the region to FedEx’s global network, combining cold-chain expertise, technology and shipment visibility.
AI and Sensor Technology
FedEx is also using digital technologies to enhance monitoring of healthcare shipments.
Its AI-powered FedEx Surround monitoring and intervention solution works alongside FedEx SenseAware sensor technology to provide near real-time information on package location, temperature and environmental conditions.
The technology enables FedEx to identify potential issues and intervene proactively when required.
Part of a Global Healthcare Network
The Dubai certification brings FedEx’s total number of CEIV Pharma certifications to 30 across its global air hubs and cargo handling facilities.
The certification forms part of the company’s wider effort to develop a global healthcare logistics network with pharmaceutical handling capabilities across Asia Pacific, Europe, the Americas and the Middle East.
Through the DWC hub, FedEx is expanding its certified capabilities for the handling of critical and temperature-sensitive healthcare shipments across the region.
