Formula One Cancels Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Scheduled for April 2026

The 2026 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, originally scheduled to take place in Jeddah on April 19, has been officially cancelled following safety concerns linked to rising tensions in the Middle East. The decision was announced by Formula One and the FIA on March 14, 2026, after reviewing the regional situation.

The Saudi Arabian race was expected to be the fifth round of the 2026 Formula One World Championship and was set to take place at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, one of the fastest street circuits in the sport. However, organisers determined that it would not be possible to safely host the event under the current circumstances.

The cancellation comes amid escalating conflict in the region that began in late February. Reports indicate that the tensions have led to security concerns and logistical challenges for teams, drivers, and event personnel travelling to the Middle East. As a result, Formula One decided to cancel both the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and the Bahrain Grand Prix, which had been scheduled for April 12 and April 19, respectively.

Formula One officials emphasised that the safety of drivers, teams, staff, and fans was the main factor behind the decision. Organisers stated that, although the cancellation was difficult, it was necessary given the uncertain situation in the region.

With the two races removed from the schedule, the 2026 Formula One calendar has been reduced to 22 races. There will also be a longer break in the season between the Japanese Grand Prix on March 29 and the Miami Grand Prix on May 3.

The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix first joined the Formula One calendar in 2021, quickly becoming one of the most anticipated night races in the championship. Held along the Red Sea coastline, the Jeddah Corniche Circuit has been known for its high speeds and dramatic racing.

Although the 2026 event has been cancelled, Formula One officials have expressed hope that racing will return to the region in the future once conditions stabilise.
