Karim Benzema Joins Al-Hilal After Ending Al-Ittihad Contract

Karim Benzema has completed a move to Al-Hilal FC in the Saudi Pro League after terminating his contract with Al-Ittihad. Al-Hilal confirmed the signing on 2 February 2026, the final day of the winter transfer window.

The 38-year-old French striker signed a contract with Al-Hilal that runs until June 2027. The deal was confirmed as a free transfer by the club, following the termination of his contract at Al-Ittihad.

Benzema’s time at Al-Ittihad began in June 2023 after he left Real Madrid following a 14-year spell in Spain. He played a key role in Al-Ittihad’s domestic success, helping the club win both the Saudi Pro League title and the King’s Cup in the 2024-25 season.

In the months leading up to his transfer, Benzema and Al-Ittihad were reported to have disagreements over a contract extension. Sources said the terms offered by Al-Ittihad, heavily based on image rights and with little guaranteed salary, were rejected by Benzema and his representatives. The striker also missed several matches amid the dispute.

Al-Hilal are one of Saudi Arabia’s most successful clubs and currently leads the Saudi Pro League standings. The addition of Benzema strengthens their attack as they pursue domestic honours this season.

Benzema has publicly thanked Al-Ittihad after posting a farewell message on social media that acknowledged his time with the club and expressed gratitude to fans, teammates, and staff.

The transfer also coincides with ongoing discussions in the league, including reports of strong reactions from other high-profile players in the Saudi Pro League. Some sources have highlighted tensions linked to player movements during the window, particularly involving other star forwards in the competition.

Benzema’s move marks a significant shift within the Saudi Pro League and adds another high-profile name to Al-Hilal’s roster as the club aims for future success.
