Saudi Arabia has announced plans for a landmark National Tennis Centre in Qiddiya City, a major new sports and entertainment destination located west of Riyadh. The project is set to become the largest tennis complex in the region and represents another significant step in the Kingdom’s efforts to expand its sporting infrastructure under Vision 2030.
Developed by Qiddiya Investment Company, the National Tennis Centre is designed to serve as a world class venue for international tournaments, elite athlete development, community participation, and year round tennis activities. Construction is already underway, with the facility being designed by global sports architecture firm Populous, known for its work on some of the world’s most iconic sporting venues.
The centre will feature a total of 30 tennis courts, including 28 hard courts and two clay courts. At the heart of the complex will be a 15,000 seat Centre Court equipped with a retractable roof, allowing tournaments and events to take place throughout the year regardless of weather conditions. Additional competition venues include a 5,000 seat Court One, a 2,000 seat Court Two, and an 8,000 seat multi purpose arena that can host sporting events, concerts, and entertainment shows. Together, the venues will provide a total spectator capacity of approximately 33,000.
The facility has been designed to meet ATP, WTA, and International Tennis Federation standards, positioning it as a venue capable of hosting some of the sport’s most prestigious events in the future. Officials believe the centre will not only attract international competitions but also help develop local talent and increase participation in tennis across the Kingdom.
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Tuwaiq Mountains, the complex will blend sports infrastructure with public spaces, training facilities, wellness amenities, and community areas. The venue is also expected to become a training destination for professional players, particularly during the winter season when Saudi Arabia offers favourable playing conditions.
The National Tennis Centre will form part of the wider Qiddiya City development, a mega project envisioned as Saudi Arabia’s capital of entertainment, sport, and culture. The city is already home to major attractions including Six Flags Qiddiya City and Aquarabia, while several other sports venues and cultural landmarks are currently under development.
With its scale, modern design, and international ambitions, the National Tennis Centre is expected to play a key role in strengthening Saudi Arabia’s presence on the global tennis stage while creating new opportunities for players, fans, and future generations of athletes across the region.
