Saudi Arabia’s national carrier, Saudia, has announced the launch of direct flights between Riyadh and Tokyo, marking a major step in strengthening travel links between Saudi Arabia and Japan. The new service will begin in November 2026, offering travelers a convenient nonstop connection between the two countries while supporting tourism, business, and cultural exchange.
The new route will operate three times a week from King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh to Narita International Airport in Tokyo. Flights are scheduled to begin on November 17, using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, providing passengers with a modern long haul travel experience. Ticket sales have already opened, giving travelers ample time to plan their journeys.
The route is being introduced through a collaboration between Saudia, the Air Connectivity Program, and the Saudi Tourism Authority. The initiative is designed to expand Saudi Arabia’s international aviation network while attracting more visitors to the Kingdom as part of the country’s broader tourism ambitions. Officials say the direct service will strengthen tourism and commercial activity between Saudi Arabia and Japan while making travel easier for both business and leisure passengers.
The launch also supports Saudi Arabia’s National Aviation Strategy and National Tourism Strategy, both of which aim to position the Kingdom as a leading global tourism destination and an international logistics hub under Vision 2030. Increasing direct international routes has become a key focus as Saudi Arabia continues investing in its aviation sector and expanding global connectivity.
According to Saudia, the Tokyo route carries strategic importance beyond aviation. The airline believes it will strengthen the growing relationship between Saudi Arabia and Japan by creating new opportunities for trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange. The Saudi Tourism Authority is also working with travel partners and agencies in Japan to promote Saudi destinations and develop travel packages that encourage more Japanese visitors to explore the Kingdom.
The new connection comes at a significant time as Saudi Arabia prepares to host the AFC Asian Cup 2027. Direct flights from Tokyo are expected to improve travel options for Japanese football fans and other international visitors planning to attend the tournament, while supporting the Kingdom’s preparations for welcoming large numbers of guests.
Saudia currently serves more than 100 destinations across four continents and is continuing an ambitious fleet expansion program that includes the addition of 112 new aircraft. The introduction of nonstop flights to Tokyo reflects the airline’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its global network and reinforce Saudi Arabia’s position as an increasingly connected destination for international travelers.
