Sony has introduced two new G Master™ super-telephoto prime lenses in Saudi Arabia, bringing 400mm and 600mm focal lengths to its full-frame Alpha™ E-mount system.
The new FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS and FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS are positioned as the world’s lightest lenses in their respective categories, according to Sony. The 400mm lens weighs approximately 994 grams, while the 600mm model weighs around 995 grams.
Designed for handheld shooting, both lenses combine a lightweight construction with a carefully balanced centre of gravity. Sony says this makes them easier to carry, frame subjects and track moving objects during extended shoots.
Built for Wildlife and Sports Photography
The compact design is intended to give photographers more flexibility when shooting in changing environments, particularly when using a tripod or monopod is difficult.
The lenses are aimed at a range of long-distance photography applications, including birds, wildlife and sports. Their weight distribution places the centre of gravity closer to the camera body, helping photographers maintain framing and follow moving subjects.
The FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS measures approximately 242mm in length, while the FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS measures 263mm. Both have a maximum diameter of around 108mm.
G Master Image Quality
Sony has equipped both lenses with an optical design that includes three extra-low-dispersion glass elements and one low-dispersion glass element. The setup is designed to reduce chromatic aberration and other optical distortions across the frame.
Both lenses also feature Nano AR Coating II, which helps reduce flare and ghosting when shooting in challenging lighting conditions, including strong backlighting.
An 11-blade circular aperture and precise control of spherical aberration are designed to produce smooth bokeh, a characteristic associated with Sony’s G Master series.
Fast Autofocus and Image Stabilisation
The new lenses use two XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors combined with dedicated control algorithms to deliver fast, accurate and quiet autofocus.
This allows photographers to track fast-moving subjects such as wildlife and athletes. Both lenses are also compatible with the Alpha 9 III’s continuous shooting capabilities of up to 120 frames per second with full autofocus and auto-exposure tracking.
Built-in optical image stabilisation helps reduce camera shake during handheld shooting at the lenses’ long focal lengths.
The lenses also support Active Mode stabilisation on compatible camera bodies and coordinated optical image stabilisation for photography and video. They are compatible with Sony’s Breathing Compensation function, which helps reduce changes in the angle of view caused by focus movement during video recording.
Flexible Controls and Extended Reach
Sony has included four customisable focus-hold buttons around the lens barrel, along with a function ring, focus-range limiter, full-time Direct Manual Focus (DMF) switch, focus-mode switch and image-stabilisation controls.
Optional Sony teleconverters can further extend the focal length. The FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS can reach up to 800mm, while the FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS can reach up to 1200mm.
Both lenses are also designed to resist dust and moisture and feature a fluorine coating on the front element to help repel contaminants during outdoor use.
Availability in the Region
The FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS and FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS will be available in the UAE from mid-October 2026.
The FE 400mm F4.5 GM OSS will be priced at AED 10,499, while the FE 600mm F6.3 GM OSS will cost AED 14,799.
