The 2027 Spanish Super Cup will be held in Istanbul, Türkiye, from February 2 to 7, 2027, with Riyadh Season continuing its connection with the tournament as an official sponsor.
The announcement was made on August 13 by Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority. The tournament will take place at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium, marking the first time Istanbul will host the Spanish Super Cup under its current four-team format.
The move to Istanbul is temporary. Saudi Arabia has hosted the Spanish Super Cup since 2022, but the country will host the 2027 AFC Asian Cup during the same period. The Asian Cup is scheduled to run from January 7 to February 5, making it difficult to stage both competitions in Saudi Arabia at the same time. The Spanish Super Cup is expected to return to Saudi Arabia in 2028.
Despite the change of venue, Riyadh Season will remain part of the event as an official sponsor. This keeps the Saudi entertainment brand connected to one of Spain’s biggest football competitions, even while the matches are being played outside the Kingdom.

Four teams will compete for the 2027 title. Barcelona, the 2025-26 La Liga champions, will face Atlético Madrid, the Copa del Rey runners-up. In the other semi-final, Real Madrid, the La Liga runners-up, will play Real Sociedad, who won the Copa del Rey.
The tournament will continue with its popular four-team format, with the two semi-final winners meeting in the final. A potential meeting between Barcelona and Real Madrid could also create another El Clásico final if both clubs make it through their respective semi-finals.
The Spanish Super Cup has become an important international football event since adopting the four-team format. The competition is broadcast in more than 150 countries, giving the tournament a large global audience. Revenue from the event also supports football clubs across Spain.
For Saudi Arabia, the temporary move does not mark the end of its relationship with the competition. The Kingdom is expected to host the Spanish Super Cup again in 2028, while Riyadh Season’s sponsorship in Istanbul keeps the Saudi connection visible during the 2027 edition.
The 2027 tournament will therefore bring together four of Spain’s biggest clubs in one of Istanbul’s most famous stadiums, while Riyadh Season continues its growing presence in international sport.
