RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – 23 July 2026: Sony has officially introduced the FX5 Cinema Line camera in Saudi Arabia, expanding its professional filmmaking portfolio with a compact full-frame cinema camera that combines cutting-edge imaging technology, enhanced mobility and professional-grade workflow capabilities. Alongside the camera, Sony has also launched two dedicated accessories—a detachable OLED viewfinder and a new XLR Handle Unit—designed to meet the evolving needs of filmmakers, cinematographers and content creators.
The FX5 is built around a newly developed full-frame fully stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor, paired with Sony’s latest BIONZ XR2 image processing engine and a dedicated AI processing unit. Together, they deliver exceptional image quality, high-speed processing and advanced autofocus performance while maintaining the portability that modern productions demand.
Designed for professional cinema production, the FX5 offers more than 15 stops of dynamic range when shooting in S-Log3, enabling natural highlight roll-off, detailed shadow reproduction and low-noise performance across challenging lighting conditions. The camera also introduces three Base ISO settings—800, 4000 and 12800—along with Sony’s new Dual Gain Shooting technology, allowing filmmakers to achieve cleaner images and greater flexibility in diverse shooting environments.
One of the camera’s most significant additions is Open Gate recording, making the FX5 the first model in Sony’s FX series to support 3:2 full-pixel sensor readout. The camera also supports multiple recording formats, including Sony’s proprietary 16-bit X-OCN RAW recording directly inside the camera without requiring an external recorder. New X-OCN C1 and C2 codecs have also been introduced to reduce file sizes while maintaining high image quality, helping streamline post-production workflows.
Sony has integrated advanced AI capabilities into the FX5, enabling precise subject recognition through AI-powered human pose estimation technology. The system accurately tracks a person’s eyes, head and body even in low-light environments, while Real-time Tracking ensures reliable autofocus throughout a shoot. The camera also features Auto Tracing White Balance, improved image stabilization, de-squeeze support for anamorphic lenses and customizable noise suppression settings for greater creative control.
Built for demanding production environments, the FX5 features a compact flat-top body suitable for handheld operation, gimbal use and confined shooting spaces. A newly designed cooling system supports extended recording sessions, while its weather-resistant construction improves reliability during outdoor productions. The camera also includes a larger 3.5-inch multi-angle touchscreen, Sony’s BIG6 user interface inherited from CineAlta cameras, dual USB-C ports, wired LAN connectivity and compatibility with the new high-capacity NP-SA100 battery, offering longer shooting times.
Complementing the camera are two new professional accessories. The DVF-EL1 detachable OLED viewfinder features a high-resolution 7.07-million-dot display with HDR support and a tilting design for flexible monitoring. Meanwhile, the XLR-H2 Handle Unit provides dual XLR/TRS inputs and supports 96 kHz, 32-bit float, four-channel audio recording, making it ideal for documentary, broadcast and field productions. Sony has also introduced an optional USB-C to BNC Timecode Adapter Cable to support multicamera synchronization and professional filmmaking workflows.
The FX5 integrates with Sony’s Monitor & Control application for remote camera operation and video monitoring, while upcoming updates to Catalyst Prepare 3.0 will enhance editing workflows, including support for the camera’s latest recording formats. Sony also confirmed a future firmware update planned for 2027 that will introduce features such as 240 fps high-frame-rate recording, expanded Open Gate recording options and an optimized interface for vertical shooting.
Reflecting Sony’s broader sustainability efforts, approximately 30% of the camera’s components are made from recycled plastic, while manufacturing facilities in Thailand and China operate using 100% renewable energy. The company has also reduced plastic packaging by incorporating plant-derived materials. Accessibility features, including a screen reader and enlarged menu display, further improve usability for a wider range of creators.
The Sony FX5 will be available across Saudi Arabia from August 2026, with a suggested retail price of SAR 22,599 for the version including the XLR Handle Unit and SAR 20,399 for the body-only model.
