Sony Launches FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS Super-Telephoto Zoom Lens in Saudi Arabia

Compact, lightweight design combines long-range performance with impressive image quality for photography enthusiasts

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, August 5, 2026: Sony has announced the launch of the new FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS in Saudi Arabia, introducing a compact and lightweight super-telephoto zoom lens designed for 35mm full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras. Built for hobbyists and photography enthusiasts, the new lens delivers exceptional mobility, fast autofocus, and outstanding image quality, making it an ideal companion for wildlife, sports, aviation, and landscape photography.

Despite offering an impressive 100mm to 400mm focal length, the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS weighs approximately 654 grams, making it one of the lightest lenses in its class. Its portable design allows photographers to comfortably carry it throughout the day while maintaining excellent balance for handheld shooting. The lightweight construction also enables users to react quickly to fast-moving subjects and frame distant scenes with ease.

The lens delivers consistently sharp images throughout the entire zoom range thanks to Sony’s advanced optical design. It incorporates two Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements and two aspherical elements, effectively reducing chromatic aberration and other optical distortions for clear, high-resolution results across every focal length. A 9-blade circular aperture produces smooth, natural background blur, helping subjects stand out with pleasing bokeh while maintaining impressive detail.

Sony has also equipped the lens with strong close-up capabilities, allowing photographers to capture more than just distant subjects. With a minimum focusing distance of 0.86 metres at the telephoto end and 1.13 metres at the wide end, along with a maximum magnification of 0.41x, users can photograph flowers, insects, and other nearby subjects with remarkable clarity.

Autofocus performance has been designed to keep pace with fast-moving action. The lens uses a linear motor drive that delivers quick, accurate, and quiet autofocus, making it suitable for birds, sporting events, trains, aircraft, and wildlife photography. When paired with Sony’s flagship Alpha 9 III, it supports continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking at speeds of up to 120 frames per second, helping photographers capture decisive moments with confidence.

To further enhance handheld shooting, the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS features built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation, reducing camera shake during telephoto photography. The lens also supports Sony camera features including Active Mode image stabilisation, coordinated image stabilisation control, and breathing compensation during video recording, enabling smoother footage and reduced framing shifts while focusing.

Designed with outdoor photographers in mind, the lens includes several practical controls for greater flexibility in the field. A customizable focus hold button, focus mode and focus range switches, and a zoom lock switch provide quick access to frequently used settings. Its dust- and moisture-resistant construction offers greater reliability when shooting in changing weather conditions, while the supplied lens hood helps minimise flare and ghosting for consistently high image quality.

For photographers seeking even greater reach, the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS is compatible with Sony’s optional teleconverters, extending the focal length up to 800mm, or 1,200mm when used in APS-C mode, making it suitable for capturing subjects at extreme distances.

The Sony FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS will be available across Saudi Arabia from September 2026 with a suggested retail price of SAR 3,799, offering photography enthusiasts an accessible super-telephoto solution that combines portability, performance, and versatility in one compact package.
