Riyadh Gears Up for Its Biggest Marathon Festival Yet at Diriyah

The Riyadh Marathon Festival is set to take place in Riyadh from 28 to 31 January 2026. This multi-day running and fitness celebration is part of the fifth edition of the Riyadh Marathon, organised by the Saudi Sports for All Federation (SFA) with support from the Ministry of Sport and the Saudi Arabian Athletic Federation. It brings together runners, families and fitness lovers for a weekend of races, community activities and celebrations of health and sport.

For the first time, the festival format expands the event beyond a single race day. The marathon festival aims to create a lively atmosphere filled with entertainment, music, fitness activities and community engagement in the heart of Riyadh’s historic district, Mayadeen in Diriyah.

More Than Just a Race

The Riyadh Marathon Festival blends competition with fun. Alongside the main marathon and other distance races, participants can enjoy energising entertainment, food experiences and community-oriented activities designed to appeal to all ages and fitness levels.

The festival is aligned with Saudi Arabia’s broader goals under Vision 2030, which encourages healthier lifestyles, widespread participation in physical activity and greater community engagement across the Kingdom.

Multiple Race Distances for All Levels

The heart of the festival is the running programme. The event will offer four race distances, making it accessible to elite athletes and casual runners alike. These include:

• Full Marathon (42.2 km) – Designed for experienced marathoners to test endurance and pace over the classic distance.
• Half Marathon (21.1 km) – A challenging run for dedicated runners and seasoned amateurs.
• 10 km Race – A popular distance for competitive runners and fitness enthusiasts.
• 5 km Fun Run – A friendly and inclusive race for families, beginners and everyone looking to join the festive spirit.

Races start and finish in Mayadeen, Diriyah, giving participants scenic views of Riyadh’s blend of history and modern urban life.

Festival Activities and Community Spirit

The festival atmosphere is expected to stretch beyond the running routes. Organisers are planning a festival village, entertainment zones and activity areas to engage spectators and participants. There will be music, energising stations and spaces for families to relax and enjoy the event.

Health and wellness are central themes. The event promotes physical activity at all levels, encouraging people of all ages and abilities to take part in the joy of running and community participation.

With thousands of runners already expected to register, the festival will bring together locals and international visitors alike. The event’s combination of high-level racing and recreational elements aims to make it one of the most dynamic events in the Kingdom’s sports calendar.

Official Support and Organisation

The SFA leads the organisation of the Riyadh Marathon Festival, working with the Ministry of Sport, the Saudi Arabian Athletic Federation and other key partners to deliver the event. Their collaboration ensures a professionally managed festival with strong support services, safety measures and wide accessibility.

Medical teams, route marshals and refreshment stations will be in place to support runners throughout the event, making it welcoming and safe for all participants.
