The Saudi Film Festival will return this April with a special focus on Korean cinema, adding a global touch to one of the kingdom’s longest-running film events.
Set to take place from April 23 to 29 at the King Abdulaziz Centre for World Culture (Ithra) in Dhahran, the festival will bring together filmmakers, audiences and industry professionals for a week of screenings, talks and workshops.
This year’s edition will highlight Korean films under a special program titled “Spotlight on Korean Cinema.” The move follows last year’s focus on Japanese cinema and reflects the festival’s effort to build cultural bridges through film.
Organisers have also announced the theme for this year: “Cinema of the Journey.” The program will include road movies, travel stories and films that explore emotional or personal journeys. The idea is to show how movement and change shape stories on screen.
Launched in 2008, the Saudi Film Festival is considered the kingdom’s oldest running film event. It has become an important platform for local filmmakers to screen their work, meet industry professionals and connect with audiences.
Alongside film screenings, the festival typically hosts panel discussions, masterclasses, training workshops and a production market. These activities are designed to support emerging talent and encourage new projects within the Saudi film scene.
The focus on Korean cinema also reflects growing ties between the two countries’ film industries. Saudi and Korean film bodies have been working together on training, co-production and industry exchange programs in recent years.
With its mix of local stories, international films and industry events, the festival continues to play a key role in the growth of Saudi cinema and its connection to global audiences.
The April edition is expected to draw filmmakers and movie lovers from across the region for a week that celebrates storytelling from Saudi Arabia and beyond.
